Learn How the Professionals Get Ready for a Food Photo Shoot

If you are considering hiring a food photographer, and you have never worked with one before, then you likely have many questions. You may wonder how much it costs, how long it takes, or where the shoot will take place. The best way to get answers to these and other questions is to contact us and ask! To learn more about what happens before we get started, keep reading. Then contact Neue Focus at (424) 303-1351 to book your own shoot.

It All Starts with Scheduling

The first step is getting the shoot scheduled. We will work with you to find the best time for your needs. If you want an exterior shoot then we will want to schedule it during the best hours of the day from a lighting perspective. If you want an interior shoot, then our lighting equipment makes it possible for us to shoot in any light conditions.

We Will Go Over the Layout Details with Props and Background

Next we will take to you about what type of layout you want. For example, do you want to showcase several dishes from your menu in the same shot? We can do this but generally advise against it. Why? Because getting five dishes to look warm, delicious, and picture-perfect at the exact same time can be challenging. The more affordable option is generally to take pictures of perfect dishes on their own.

We will also go over any prop or background needs you may have. Many restaurants choose to have their shoots in their own kitchens. Others prefer to have the shoot in our studio. Either way, we will talk about your needs for props or background. This could be as simple as getting a few friends to come be in the background when we shoot your dining room.

We Will Agree on the Mood for the Photo Shoot

You may think that mood wouldn’t play a big role in a food photographer session but you would be surprised. Think of it this way: Imagine the food photos you see for fine dining restaurants. Now imagine the photos you would likely see at your local bar and grille. We would shot high-quality photos for either bar but they may have different moods. For example, the bar and grille may want a fun, lively vibe, while a fine dining establishment would want a more classy, elegant mood.

Your Special Needs Will be Addressed

If you have special needs or specific requests, we will go over them as well. We will talk to you about shot lists and what will be needed from you, if anything. The goal in the lead up to the shoot is to ensure that we can come in on the day of the shoot and get it completed efficiently with the best results.
